Urban Copper Recycling

Copper offcuts, brass fittings, aluminium extrusion – whatever’s left over from a job when you’re based in Mount Druitt can be worth real money. As long as you sell to someone who grades properly and pays fair. That’s Urban Copper Recycling’s entire business model. We buy non-ferrous scrap from Mount Druitt mechanics, electricians, plumbers, fabricators and tradies. We price it against the live metal market, then bank every payment straight to your account.

Here’s what you need to know before you sell – the metals we buy, how selling works, and some trade secrets to increase your payout.

Your Local Non-Ferrous Metal Buyer Mount Druitt

Mount Druitt is right in the middle of Greater Western Sydney’s trade and light-manufacturing corridor. Between automotive workshops, mechanical services and fabrication businesses, there’s plenty of copper, brass and aluminium coming out the other end. We’re here to give those metals a fair second life – and to make sure the hard work of collecting the scrap gets rewarded.

What we offer:

  • Rates tied to the live market – we price your copper, brass and aluminium by weight against real metal market values.
  • Open, accountable weighing – every skip and trailer load is weighed on calibrated scales you can see.
  • Clean bank payment – all our payments go straight to your nominated bank account. Easily traceable.
  • Accurate grading – we grade bright copper, tinned copper, and heavy gauge differently so you don’t lose money on mixed loads.

Common Scrap Metal Sources Mount Druitt

Because Mount Druitt already has such a strong automotive and trade presence, most of the copper, brass and aluminium we buy comes off working jobs like:

  • Pulling copper wiring or cable during electrical or rewiring jobs
  • Pulling brass fittings, valves, and taps during plumbing or fit-out jobs
  • Trimming aluminium extrusion, or creating offcuts during fabrication or glazing work
  • Pulling radiators and copper/aluminium from automotive or mechanical jobs
  • Pulling copper and aluminium from air-con and refrigeration installs

Don’t sweat trying to separate stuff yourself – mixed loads are our specialty!

Tips To Help You Increase Your Payment

Sell two loads that weigh the same and they can earn dramatically different returns based on how the scrap is presented. Taking five minutes to prep your copper or aluminium can often mean more money in your pocket. Here are a few tips only insiders know…

Sort Your Copper Separately

Bright copper prices higher than tinned copper or ‘dirty copper.’ By keeping your copper sorted by grade (and your brass separate from the copper) you’ll earn top dollar for every kilo instead of being downgraded to the lowest common grade.

When Does Stripping Cable Make Sense?

Bare copper earns a better rate than insulated copper. Where it makes sense to strip insulation off wire (heavy-gauge copper cable, particularly) it can significantly increase your payout. If your copper wire is thin, or you don’t have much, it probably doesn’t make financial sense to bother.

Keep It Clean

Dumping rubber, plastic, dirt, and moisture on top of copper downgrades your entire load. Keeping detached fittings off your scrap metal and wiping down fittings so they’re clean and dry will ensure your metal gets paid in the highest grade possible.

Negotiate Price on Large Loads

Everything we buy is tied to the live metal market (meaning global commodity markets dictate price changes day-to-day). Do you have a large quantity of copper/aluminium on hand? Give us a call to ensure you’re getting today’s rate before you sell – 0412 500 063.

    FREQUENTLY
    ASKED QUESTIONS

Which scrap metal sells for the most money in Mount Druitt?

Copper. Then brass. Then aluminium. As long as it’s sorted and clean it’s fairly simple – copper commands the highest price so sell copper first. But don’t just take our word for it, give us a call and we’ll tell you the current rate – 0412 500 063.

Will someone steal my identity if I sell scrap metal?

You’ll have to show ID when you sell – that’s the law in NSW. The Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016 requires all sellers of scrap metal to provide a valid, government-issued photo ID. That’s standard across the country – you’re not giving your identity away, you’re stopping thieves from selling stolen scrap metal using your details.

Can I pay cash for my scrap metal in Mount Druitt?

Nope. Businesses operating in NSW are banned from accepting cash payments for scrap metal. We pay everyone by bank transfer straight to their nominated accounts. Be sure to bring your bank details with you.

Do you buy household appliances and car bodies in Mount Druitt?

We don’t. We’re exclusively non-ferrous metals, which means we buy copper, aluminium, brass, lead and stainless steel. We do not buy steel, cast iron, car bodies or household appliances.

Do you pick up scrap metal from Mount Druitt tradies?

Yep. Everyday. Urban Copper Recycling has been collecting scrap copper, aluminium and brass from Mount Druitt tradies for years. Just give us a call and we can organise a pickup that suits.
