Scrap metal for plumbers in Sydney
Sydney plumbers: get paid for metal scrap
Every plumber has “the pile”. It’s the stuff in the van or shed that you mean to sort out one day, but somehow keep putting off. Urban Copper Recycling buys accepted scrap metal from plumbers throughout Sydney, including copper and brass from plumbing jobs.
You can bring your scrap to our yard on the way to a job, or contact us to ask about pickup for qualifying loads. We’re at 122B Bungaree Road, Pendle Hill. We weigh and grade accepted material, then pay by electronic transfer on the same day.
What plumbers bring us in Sydney
Copper tubing:
Copper pipe from water lines, gas lines and refrigeration work can add up over time. Clean copper pipe with fittings removed may be eligible for a higher grade. Pipe with solder joints or brass fittings can still be assessed, but attachments and contamination may affect the grade.
For details on copper cable and other accepted copper, see our copper recycling service.
Brass fittings:
Tapware, mixers, gate and ball valves, brass fittings and other plumbing components can all add up. Brass is dense, so a bucket of fittings can weigh more than you might expect.
Keep brass separate from copper where practical. That makes the load easier to assess and helps avoid mixing different metals into one grade.
Water meters and regulators:
Water meters and regulators may contain brass bodies. Backflow prevention devices and similar plumbing components can also be assessed. If you have a mixed batch or are unsure what a component contains, send us a photo when asking for a quote.
Hot water systems:
Hot water systems can contain different materials, including steel, copper and other metal components. If you have an old electric, gas or solar system to clear, contact us before bringing it in so we can confirm whether we can accept the unit and how it should be prepared. Do not cut or dismantle a system unless you’re authorised and it’s safe to do so.
Lead, stainless steel and aluminium:
Lead flashing and sheet lead can be assessed by weight. We may also assess stainless steel items from commercial kitchen strip-outs, such as benches and sinks, as well as aluminium guttering and downpipes from roofing jobs.
Stainless steel contains iron, so it is not a non-ferrous metal like copper or brass. Keep it separate from those metals where possible. Acceptance depends on the material and grade.

Renovations, hot water replacements and rip-outs
Renovation and replacement work can leave plumbers with copper pipe, old brass tapware, meters and redundant hot water units. Rather than mixing these materials into general waste or leaving them for someone else to clear, keep the accepted scrap separate and ask us about selling it.
If you’re replacing several hot water systems, you may be able to store the units at your workshop or yard and arrange collection together. Urban Copper can also discuss regular pickups with plumbing businesses that generate scrap across multiple vans or jobs. Collection depends on the amount, material, location and access, so confirm the terms with us first.
Sorting tips that may help your return
You don’t have to sort every piece before bringing it in. A few simple steps can make the load easier to assess:
- Separate copper from brass. Keep copper pipe and brass taps or valves in different containers where practical.
- Keep clean copper apart from pipe with fittings. Removing fittings where safe and practical can help us assess the copper separately.
- Keep steel out of copper-only containers. A stray steel component can affect how a mixed load is graded.
- Ask before dismantling. Hot water systems and other equipment may contain several materials. Check with us before spending time taking them apart.
The value depends on the type, grade, condition and weight of the accepted metal. We can explain the options once we know what’s in your load.
Why plumbers use Urban Copper Recycling?
Plumbing scrap can build up quickly, and trips to dispose of it take time. You can bring accepted metal to our Pendle Hill yard, or ask whether a pickup is available for your quantity and location.
We weigh and grade the material, explain the assessment and pay by electronic transfer on the same day. We can also provide tax invoices and weighbridge dockets for your records. For repeat loads, ask us about scheduled pickups and commercial arrangements.
See our brass recycling service for more information about accepted brass, or browse our scrap metal recycling services for other materials.

Copper and brass are common valuable materials from plumbing work, but the amount you receive depends on the type, grade, condition and weight. Clean, separated material can be easier to grade than a mixed load. Contact us for an assessment of your specific scrap.
No, you don’t need to sort every item. Separating copper, brass and other metals where practical can make grading clearer. If you’re unsure how to handle a mixed load, send us photos or ask when you call.
