Urban Copper Recycling

FAQ

Urban Copper Recycling is a reliable scrap copper buyer located across all areas of Sydney’s suburbs. Whether you’re located in the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, Western Sydney, Hills District, Sutherland Shire, or anywhere in between, you can drop your copper off at our yard or book a free local pickup from your doorstep.

Urban Copper Recycling buys all grades of copper, including: bare bright copper, #1 and #2 copper, insulated copper wire, copper pipe, braziery copper, and copper-bearing items like motors and transformers. We buy copper from tradies, demolition contractors, and homeowners. Whether you have scrap copper in small quantities or excess tonnes from a construction site, we buy copper in all forms and sizes.

Ideally, sort your copper into grades and remove any plastic, steel, or non-copper contaminants where possible (such as plastic water pipe fittings or steel cable brackets). Keep your insulated wire separate from your bare copper. Not only does this make it easier for us to grade your copper faster, but you’ll also receive a better return for clean, sorted copper rather than mixed scrap loads, but it is not necessary

Yes. As per NSW scrap metal regulations, you are required to provide valid photographic identification (driver’s licence or equivalent) when selling your scrap metal. Payments are made via EFT deposit straight into your nominated bank account rather than cash. These processes are in place to help keep you, the seller, safe while ensuring we remain 100% compliant with the Scrap Metal Industry Act.

Urban Copper Recycling offers free on-site pickup services for bulk copper loads located across Greater Sydney. Electricians, plumbers, and builders who have excess copper from jobs around Sydney—or businesses with copper scraps stockpiled on-site—can get in touch with us to book a pickup time that suits. Whether you’re located in the CBD, Inner City, Penrith, Campbelltown, or the Northern Beaches, we can arrange a free pickup for your copper.

Yes. Copper can be recycled from electric motors, compressor units, air conditioners, hot water units, alternators, and starter motors, to name a few. Rather than going to the trouble of stripping these items yourself, bring them into Urban Copper Recycling as-is! We grade these items based on their recoverable copper content.

Bare Bright Copper: Uncontaminated, uncoated, unalloyed wire that is greater than 1.6mm in thickness with absolutely no oxidation. It’s the highest grade of copper we buy.

#1 Copper: Clean copper that can include items like tubing, bus bars, and thicker gauge wire. It may be slightly tarnished or oxidised but is still unalloyed copper containing no other metals.

All copper is weighed on certified government scales that are routinely calibrated and graded on the day of sale by our professional team. We grade your copper scrap against industry grading categories, which we will go through with you before accepting your load. You will be provided with a full breakdown of weights per grade and classification before you leave our yard—there will be no deductions.
